No matter what car you drive, the engine oil must flow smoothly. If cold weather thickens the oil, sludge buildup could create issues. The hot weather might even be worse, as heat thins out the oil, making lubrication weaker. When the correct oil with the right viscosity level goes into the motor, averting problems may be possible.

Viscosity might sound like a fancy word, but it merely refers to how oil flows. Low-temperature viscosity is thinner than high temperature. Additives placed inside the motor oil allow for adjustments for temperature changes. The thinner cold-weather oil doesn't become too thick.

If you look on the outside of the motor oil labeling, you'll see a number plus a W followed by a dash and another number. The number with the W is the low-temperature level, and the standalone number is the high-temperature viscosity level.
