Do You Know the Difference Between a Compact Temporary and a Full-Size Spare Tire?

If you end up stuck on the side of the road with a flat tire, you'll be relieved to have a spare. That's why we make sure all of our Cedar Rapids, IA customers here at Cassill Motors receive a spare tire with vehicle purchase. What you may not realize is that the type of spare you have can differ. Here's a quick look at the difference between a compact temporary and a full-size spare tire.

Most smaller vehicles will come equipped with a compact temporary spare. These are also called donuts. A donut shouldn't be treated as a regular tire. For safety purposes, it's important that you drive no faster than 55 miles per hour. Also, try not to ride around with it for long. It should be replaced at your first opportunity.

A full-size spare tire can be treated as your normal tire. You can drive as usual as long as you take the time to add this tire to your regular tire rotation schedule.
